Chithirai – சித்திரை
Chithirai is the 1st month on tamil calendar where the last seven days are completely hot and very tough for human beings. The heat felt can be up to 40 or 45 degree Fahrenheit. Many people who are very aged or unable to manage heat die in this period. This is named as agni natchathiram. Though this month has 31 days, the last 7 days are a challenge for many. There is a Hindu festival celebrated in this chithirai masam named as ‘chithirai thiruvizha’.
Tamil New Year in April 2022
This is the traditional celebration of the first day of the tamil calendar. This is said as puthaandu or push varudam. This celebration is full of positive vibrations and heartfelt good wishes to each other. This day the Tamilian pray for a sorrowless, successful, best yielding year ahead. They make mango pachadi, other vegetables and fruits that grow in the year are kept in front of God and wish for a better year ahead in both fields and life.
Also to indicate sweet jaggery is kept for worship to indicate the demolishing of darkness and sorrows in life.
